Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence’s Camp Davis, located on 106 acres of pristine wilderness in Charlestown, RI has recently received accreditation from the American Camp Association, New England (ACA).Based on scores calculated by the National Office, the New England ACA Board voted to classify Camp Davis as an accredited camp.
The main purpose of ACA accreditation is to educate camp owners and directors in the administration and key aspects of camp operation, particularly those related to program quality and the health and safety of campers and staff.A second purpose of ACA accreditation is to assist the public in selecting camps that meet industry-accepted and government-recognized standards.Accreditation indicates to the public that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence’s Camp Davis administration has voluntarily allowed its practices to be compared with the standards established by professionals in the camp industry. At least once every three years, an outside team of trained camp professionals will visit Camp Davis to verify compliance with the standards.
Justin Waranis, Director of Outdoor Education and Environmental Studies for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence was pleased with the accreditation process and result saying, “Our staff works hard to maintain a healthy, safe, and educational environment for our campers. We are honored by the American Camping Association, New England Board’s award and enjoyed working with such a distinguished group of camp professionals.”
