BOARD OF GOVERNORS ELECTS NEW MEMBER

Providence, RI – On Friday, June 27 the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence Board of Governors elected Alan F. Gardiner of Cox Communications to a two-year term on the board.

A resident of North Providence, Gardiner joined Cox Communications in 1989 as a construction lineman. Today he serves as Vice President of Network Services for Cox’s New England operations.  He joined Cox after several technical and operational roles in his family business in the cable industry in Ireland.

Gardiner is responsible for the operation, engineering, design and construction of Cox’s telecommunication services including telephony, high speed data, digital and high definition video and OnDemand.

Gardiner currently serves as co-chairperson of the Cox New England Diversity Council that has aided in the company’s recent sixth place rank on the DiversityInc. Top 50 Companies For Diversity® List. The Council works to include and represent all employees by following a strategy incorporating diversity into four key areas of Cox business: people, marketing and programming, public and community relations, and vendor/supplier relationships.

“Alan’s interest in issues surrounding diversity, and his commitment to athletic programs in North Providence are going to be great assets to our Board in the coming years,” said Board President Robert Brooks.

Gardiner is an active member of North Providence Youth Soccer Association.  For the past 10 years he has helped with the organization of the association, and is currently coaching the Boys U16 teams.
