Amgen Supports Active Kids at Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence
Donates items to keep kids moving after the summer
Providence, RI – Amgen, which operates a site in West Greenwich, RI, has donated more than $300 worth of jump ropes, hula-hoops and swim-suits to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence and Camp Davis.
The bathing suits, jump ropes and hula-hoops will be put to good use at the Clubs. “The swim suits mean that the children who don’t have a suit to bring from home will be able to take part in swim lessons,” said Ian Muir, the aquatics program manager at the Fox Point Club. Jump ropes and hula-hoops are always in demand during activity time in the gym. Keeping kids active, and teaching them about the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle are a cornerstone of the Boys & Girls Clubs mission. Sports, fitness and recreation help youth learn to use leisure time in a positive way and how to manage their stress.
“Amgen is proud to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence in their mission to positively impact children’s lives,” said Kimball Hall, Vice President and General Manager, Amgen Rhode Island. “Through this donation, we hope to help more children gain access to the wonderful programs and services of the Boys & Girls Clubs who might not otherwise have the chance.”
Founded in 1868, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence is the oldest operating Boys & Girls Club in the nation and the largest in Rhode Island. Clubhouses in Providence and North Providence house state-of-the-art computer labs, swimming pools, and gymnasiums as well as nationally accredited and licensed preschools and kindergartens. Camp Davis in Charlestown offers children year-round outdoor camping opportunities. Over 7,500 children and youth come to the Clubs for homework help, computer and Internet safety instruction, swim lessons, job/career development and training, organized athletic leagues, and just plain fun!
